USA: Walmart teams up with Uber and Lyft for grocery delivery service

US retail giant Walmart is said to have partnered with Uber Technologies and Lyft to test a new grocery delivery service, potentially in a bid to compete with Amazon, according to US media reports.

Sources state that Walmart has also started testing a similar service in Miami for its warehouse chain Sam’s Club, partnering with Deliv which offers same-day deliveries for Kohl’s, Macy’s and other retailers.

Under the new pilot programme, consumers place orders online to be shopped and packaged by Wal-Mart employees. The goods are then delivered by Uber or Lyft drivers with a cost around $7 to $10, which the consumers pay to Wal-Mart, not to the drivers.

The pilot programme offering "speedy delivery to people’s homes" will be launched in Denver and Phoenix later in June.
