USA: Walmart announces new US president & CEO

Wal-Mart has announced that it has promoted Greg Foran to president and CEO for its US operations. He will succeed Bill Simon, who will be transitioning out the company, the company said in a statement.

Mr Foran will start his new role at the beginning of August, reporting directly to Doug McMillon, President and CEO of Walmart. Mr McMillon said :“Greg is one of the most talented retailers I’ve ever met, his depth of knowledge and global experience will bring a fresh perspective to our business. His passion for fresh food, experience in general merchandise and commitment to e-commerce will help us serve our customers even more effectively for years to come.”

Greg Foran has been with company since October 2011, became president and CEO of Walmart China in 2012, and prior to his promotion held the position of president and CEO of Walmart Asia.

Mr McMillon continued: “I’ve worked closely with Greg for the past few years, and I’ve seen first-hand his passion for retail. I’m confident that Greg’s strong leadership skills and alignment with our culture will serve our customers and associates well. I’m excited about what he will bring to this important part of our business.”

Following his promotion, Mr Foran commented: “Being asked to lead the Walmart U.S. business is a privilege that I don’t take lightly”, adding: “I am excited to get started”.
