USA: Tyson Foods to close Buena Vista plant
US meat producer Tyson Foods has announced plans to reorganise its business in South Georgia, USA, including the discontinuation of its Buena Vista plant and reduced operations at its facility in Dawson.
According to the company, the planned Buena Vista closure is “due to a combination of factors including changing product needs, the age of the facility and the prohibitive cost of its renovation”. The decision will affect around 190 staff who work at the site.
At Dawson, the company said it would no longer operate a third shift as of the 10th April.
Noel White, president of Poultry for Tyson Foods, commented: “Our business needs have changed in southern Georgia, so after a great deal of consideration, we’ve decided to take these steps in order to best serve our customers.”
The Buena Vista facility is expected to cease operations by the end of May.
