USA: Mars issues chocolate recall
US chocolate maker Mars has recalled products under its Mars, Snickers , Milky Way and Celebration brands in 55 countries after plastic was found in a confectionery bar on sale in Germany.
Saying that it believed the case to be an "isolated incident" and describing the recall as “a precaution”, the firm stated that the products affected had been manufactured in a period of about five weeks during December 2015 and January 2016 at a facility in the southern Dutch town of Veghel, Netherlands.
According to a report in ABC News, the German arm of Mars said that the recall in Germany involved products with best before dates between June 2016 and January 2017, adding: "We have intentionally chosen a long production time frame in order to ensure that all products that might be affected are recalled".
In a press release, Mars said that only products labelled on pack as “Mars Netherlands” were included in the recall.
