USA: Lidl considering Texas openings
Lidl, the German retail giant that is part of the Schwarz Group, is earmarking parts of the southern USA for its initial wave of stores in North America, according to a report in the Houston Business Journal.
In addition to the eastern US, where Lidl has centred its planned foray into the US market, the discounter is now exploring the option of opening locations in the state of Texas although has not yet released specific details, the newspaper reports.
"We are in the early stages of our preparation to launch in the U.S., and have not yet made individual store announcements", a Lidl spokesman is quoted as saying. "Our focus right now is in our operations along the East Coast, but we are also looking at sites in Texas".
In June of last year, Lidl finally confirmed its rumoured expansion into North America, announcing the opening of a corporate headquarters and a regional office & distribution centre in the state of Virginia.
