USA: Kellogg to shut snack facility in Indiana

Cereal and snacks firm Kellogg is set to close its cracker plant in Seelyville, IN, USA due to excess capacity, according to a report in Food Business News.

The plant, which manufacturers products for brands such as Keebler, Club and Cheez-It will reportedly shut its doors by the end of 2017, affecting 150 jobs.

Commenting on the move, Kellogg spokesperson Kris Charles is quoted as saying: "Kellogg has a compelling business need to better align our manufacturing assets with marketplace trends and customer requirements. To that end, we continue to evaluate our global manufacturing network to ensure that we have the right manufacturing capacity — in the right locations — to better meet our current and future production needs, and the evolving needs of our customers. As part of that process, we assessed our U.S. cracker manufacturing network and determined that we have more capacity than is required to meet demand".

The Seelyville plant was purchased by Kellogg as part of its $42 million purchase of IndyBake Products in August 2008, Food Business News reports.
