USA: Jack Link’s set to obtain meat snacks business from Unilever

Jack Link’s Beef Jerky has entered into an agreement to acquire Unilever’s meat snacks business for an undisclosed amount, with the transaction expected to close at the end of March.

According to Food Business News, the acquisition includes the European brands Bifi, Benelux and Peperami as well as Unilever’s meat snacks manufacturing plant in Ansbach, Germany.

Troy Link, chief executive officer of Jack Link’s commented that: “Jack Link’s mission is to be the No. 1 provider of branded meat snacks throughout the world and this is an important step in delivering on that mission.” He went on to add that the company was, “excited to welcome the BiFi and Peperami brands into the family. These brands continue to drive growth in meat snacks in their respective territories and we look forward to working with all of our team members and retail partners to continue that success."

President of Unilever Europe, Jan Zijderveld, also commented on the move, saying that it formed part of Unilever’s effort to “sharpen its portfolio.”
