USA: Haribo to build factory in Wisconsin
Haribo, the world’s leading manufacturer of licorice and gummy sweets, has announced that it is to build a new factory in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, the company’s first in the USA.
Located in the south-east of the state, the $242 million, 500,000 sq ft plant is scheduled to be operational by 2020 and to employ around 400 staff, according to a report in the Associated Press.
Commenting on the news, Haribo group CEO Hans Guido Riegel said: "The decision to build a production facility in Wisconsin is very significant for the Haribo group. Haribo of America is the fastest-growing sweet manufacturer in the USA, so the step towards having domestic production by 2020 is very important for us".
Wes Saber, executive vice president and CFO of Haribo of America added: "We plan to build one of the largest sites in the confectionery industry. The new facility offers ideal opportunities to develop and grow Haribo’s successful activities in the USA".
