USA: Abbott launches Curate snack brand

Pharmaceutical firm Abbott has announced a new foray in the FMCG space with the unveiling of a snack brand called Curate “that takes a culinary approach to nutritious snacking”.

Described as featuring “unique flavor combinations that taste like they were handcrafted by a chef”, the Curate line is said to be a good source of plant-based fibre and protein and to be free of artificial preservatives, flavours, colours, GMOs and gluten.

According to a company press release, the new snack range is offered in a range of six flavour profiles: Dark & Tempting  (“balsamic vinegar, fig and hazelnut come together in a sweet and savory blend rounded out with orange citrus zest”) , Harmonious Blend (“Marcona almond and apricot […] with refreshing hints of lemon, vinegar, quinoa and honey), Irresistible (Chocolate, strawberries and pistachio [… in an] arrangement of toasted oats, quinoa and almond butter), Indulgent (“Dark chocolate and hazelnuts are blended with chia seeds and almonds, and finished with sweet vanilla”), Salted Decadence (“Dark chocolate and almonds are combined with hemp seeds and quinoa […]”), and Sweet & Tart Berry Bliss (“Wild blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and cranberries mixed with almonds, chia seeds and quinoa […] topped off with a sprinkle of flax seeds”)

The new product is said to have fewer than 200 calories and protein equal to a medium sized egg.

Abbott added that it was also planning to introduce a line of bars targeted at children during the spring.
