UK: Unilever to acquire Quala brands

FMCG multinational Unilever has announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire personal care and home care brands of Latin American consumer goods firm Quala.

With a combined turnover of over $400 million in 2016, Quala’s portfolio includes leading local brands such as haircare and skin cleansing brand Savital/Savile, male haircare and styling brand eGo, haircare brand Bio-Expert, oral care brand Fortident and fabric conditioner brand Aromatel.

Unilever’s CEO Paul Polman, said: "We are delighted to be acquiring Quala’s personal care and home care portfolio. Quala has done an outstanding job of building strong and competitive local brands. The inclusion of these brands in our stable will consolidate our leading position in Haircare globally, and contribute to our Oral Care and Male Grooming businesses, complementing very well our existing offering".

According to Unilever, Quala is present in 10 countries in Latin America: Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Peru, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Guatemala.

The terms and amount of the deal were not disclosed.
