UK: McCain expands into chilled food

Canada-based frozen food giant McCain is expanding into the chilled sector, with the launch of new ranges of ready-to-cook fries and roast potatoes in the UK.

McCain Shake Shake Fries – one of the items in the firm’s new line up – come as a bag of chips that includes sachet of seasoning, which is designed to be poured over the fries and the bag shaken before cooking. These are available in the flavours Spanish Smoked Paprika and Sea Salt & Cracked Black Pepper.

Meanwhile, the company’s new McCain Gourmet Chips range are promoted as “triple cooked” and come in an ovenable tray in the varieties Cornish Sea Salt and Parmesan & Rosemary.

Completing the line-up are McCain Gourmet Roasts, also in an ovenable tray and promoted as being basted in goose fat.

The range is available in Asda stores and is due to expand into Tesco and Iceland in the due course. McCain Shake Shake Fries are currently available for a price of £2 ($2.60), while McCain Gourmet Chips and McCain Gourmet Roasts are retailing for £2.50 ($3.25) per pack.
