UK: Boparan Holdings looking to buy Bernard Matthews – reports
Investment firm Boparan Holdings, the parent company of 2 Sisters Food Group, is to table a bid to acquire troubled UK turkey producer Bernard Matthews, according to a report in the Telegraph.
The business, which has reportedly been loss-making in recent times, is said to have been up for sale for a number of months after present owners Rutland Partners, a private equity firm, struggled to revive the firm's fortunes.
Norfolk-based Bernard Matthews was founded in 1958 and has grown to become Europe's largest turkey processor. The firm sells a range of fresh and frozen breaded turkey, whole turkeys and turkey joints, in addition to cooked meats.
In addition to 2 Sisters, Boparan Holdings owns the food manufacturer Northern Foods, as well as restaurant chains Harry Ramsden's, FishWorks and Giraffe.
