Spain: Lidl to build its largest logistics plant in Europe

Supermarket chain Lidl is set to begin construction on its biggest logistic plant in Europe with an investment of €70 million ($79 million), according to a report in Europa Press.

The facility will be located in Alcala de Henares, not far from the capital Madrid, and will occupy a surface are of 71,000 square metres, including warehousing space of 30,000 square metres.

Announced three months ago and due for completion by summer 2016, the new facility will be built on the site of a former Electrolux factory, and will reportedly employ around 275 staff.

Lidl operates 530 stores and 9 logistics facilities across Spain, and has an annual revenue of €2.5 billion ($2.8 billion) in the country.
