Spain: Eroski expands online offer

Basque supermarket chain Eroski has increased its online offering by adding 4,000 new items to its online supermarket service Eroski Online.

According to Gran Consumo, a further 4,000 items are being added to the site, bringing the total number of products available to more than 12,000.

The new additions include local, fresh, organic, gourmet, wellbeing, beauty and para-pharmacy products. Initially the new items will be made available in Vitoria and Pamplona, with plans in place to gradually extend the offer to more locations.

In a further development, online orders will be fulfilled by larger hypermarket stores rather than smaller stores as at present.

Gran Consumo reports that Eroski’s e-commerce arm has recently seen 10% growth in sales. The group is now focusing on improving the shopping experience, range, and prices, as well introducing services such as a “click and collect” facility.
