Portugal: Grab & Go unveils Grab & Go Market
Portuguese retail firm Grab & Go has opened a new convenience store format called Grab & Go Market in the city of Coimbra.
Grab & Go effectively functions as a ‘store’ of automatic vending machines, predominantly selling on-the go foods. According to a report in Distribuicao Hoje, the new Grab & Go Market format is based on a similar concept but will instead focus on groceries such as eggs, dairy products, cold meats, cereal, soft drinks and toilet paper, as well as even chargers for mobile phones, sold through vending machines.
Commenting on the differences between the existing Grab & Go stores and the new Grab & Go Market format, the company said: "At [Grab & Go] Market, we mostly sell grocery items and larger formats for customers to take home, while at Grab & Go we sell hot snacks and other foods that are designed to be eaten there and then".
Grab & Go plans to open 10 of its new Market formats, including in in Lisbon, Porto, Aveiro, Braganca, Leiria and Evora, before the end of 2017, if the Coimbra trial is successful.
