Portugal: Dia and Intermarche form purchasing alliance

The Spanish retail chain Dia Group and the French supermarket Intermarche have agreed to create CINDIA, a joint platform for negotiating limited to Portugal.

Intermarche has been active in Portugal since 1991, while Grupo Dia has been present in the country since 1993, operating stores under the Minipreco banner.

Announcing the news in a statement, Dia said that CINDIA would be exclusively responsible for negotiating with the biggest leading national brands on all kinds of manufactured products. The aim of the peer-to-peer partnership is to optimise purchasing conditions for both banners while improving the services offered to suppliers, the company said.

The negotiating mandate that has been entrusted to CINDIA does not include traditional fresh produce from the agricultural or fishing sectors, and SMEs are also said not to be included in the negotiations. Intermarche and Dia will continue to manage their own sales strategies separately, Dia added.
