Portugal: Danone & Compal launch yoghurt with a straw

Danone, together with Sumol+Compal, the owner of the Um Bongo brand, has created a new liquid yoghurt for the Portuguese market designed to be consumed through a straw, according to a report in Grande Consumo.

The new yoghurt, which comes in a conventional plastic pot, is said to target children’s lunch boxes and features characters familiar to the Um Bongo brand including Elephant and Goronel the Gorilla Goronel..

Commenting on the launch, Oliver Perez, Danone marketing director, said: “This is a project created by us, Danone, in close collaboration with the Um Bongo brand, We wanted to offer a new way of drinking yoghurt for the children's market, combined withthe delicious taste of Um Bongo. Children are very demanding consumers, so when it comes to children's products, innovation is essential”.

Joao Nuno Pinto, marketing director in Portugal & Spain for Sumol+Compal, added:  "The partnership between Danone and Um Bongo is a good way of extending our brand to the world of children’s yoghurts, as we believe the two brands share the same values of quality, leadership and innovation. We also believe that this new product reinforces Um Bongo as a fun brand for kids and a trusted brand for parents”.

Um Bongo yoghurt comes in a choice of Strawberry & 8 Fruit flavours and has a recommended price of €1.99 ($2.21).
