Netherlands: Wessanen acquires Piramide tea brand

Wessanen, a Dutch health food producer, has agreed to buy the Piramide tea brand from the Organic Flavour Company. The deal is expected to close in March 2016.

Piramide is a long established tea brand in the Netherlands with a range of herbal, black and green teas, claimed to be 100% organic and fair trade certified.

Wessannen CEO Christophe Barnouin said: "The accretive acquisition of Piramide is a further step in the execution of our strategy and will strengthen our leadership of Organic teas in The Netherlands across both the Grocery Channel (with Zonnatura and Clipper) and now also Health Food Stores. It fits our ambition to build strong brands across all channels and to further strengthen and leverage our scale, expertise and capabilities in core categories. Piramide will further extend our overall leadership of the Health Food Store channel".

Wessanen produces spreads, honeys, marmalades, cereals, cookies, juices, sparkling lemonades, chocolate  bars, in-between snacks, soya milks, teas, coffees, crisps and rice cakes under brands such as Bjorg, Zonnatura, Clipper and Tartex.
