Netherlands: Regular Sprite to be replaced by Sprite Zero

Global beverage giant Coca-Cola has announced that regular Sprite will no longer be available in the Netherlands, and will instead be replaced by calorie and sugar free version Sprite Zero, to be sold under the Sprite name.

According to Retail Detail, Coca-Cola said that the Netherlands was chosen for the trial as it is among the more health-conscious countries

Richard Schlasberg, country manager at Coca-Cola Netherlands said: “If it is a success here, then about a hundred other countries are ready to do the same thing".

Jaap Wassink, Coca-Cola European Partners Netherlands general manager, added: "The classic Coca-Cola gave us a lot and will continue to exist, but it is no longer the only brand on which to build our future".

The move with the Sprite brand comes just under a year after Coca-Cola embarked on a major global rebrand of its cola portfolio, including the renaming of Coca-Cola Zero as Coca-Cola Zero Sugar as part of a "strategy to help people reduce their sugar intake".
