Netherlands: FrieslandCampina strengthens position in Italy through acquisition

Dutch dairy conglomerate Royal FrieslandCampina has announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire the activities of DEK Srl and 80 percent of the shares of Orange Srl. Both companies are distributors active in the Italian dairy industry.

DEK Srl has been FrieslandCampina’s dedicated sales agent in Italy for cheese and butter, serving customers in the retail, food service and business-to-business channels. Orange Srl provided a broad portfolio of cheeses and cheese-related products to retail and speciality food stores across Italy.

As a result of the transaction, the terms and conditions of which have not been revealed, Orange Srl will maintain its identity while the DEK Srl business will be integrated into a newly incorporated FrieslandCampina entity, the company said.

In a statement, the company said the move would reinforce its position in the cheese and butter market and further boost its position in Italy, one of the largest markets in the EU for (semi) hard cheeses.
