Mexico: Heineken to invest in new brewery

Heineken has announced that it is investing M$7.5 billion ($480 million) to build a new brewery in Mexico.

Located in the city of Meoqui in Chihuahua, the new facility is designed to meet demand in the US and Mexican market. Since entering Mexico, Heineken has become one of the country’s two main beer producers, selling well-known Mexican brands such as Tecate, Indio Sol and Dos Equis.

The new brewery will have a capacity of five million hectolitres of beer per year, but that could be expanded later to 10 million, commented Marc Busain, managing director of Heineken's Mexico unit Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma.

The Meoqui brewery will be the company’s seventh in the country and is expected to be completed by 2017.
