Mexico: Grupo Lala to start operations in Costa Rica

Grupo Lala, a Mexican dairy firm, has announced a partnership agreement with two companies in Costa Rica to start operations in the Central American country.

The company will work with Costa Rican firms Coopeleche and Florida Bebidas for the manufacture of their brand and local brand Mu!, according to the company.

"Coopeleche’s almost 40 years of experience and its extraordinary knowledge of the local milk production standards were vital in our decision to invest in the country”, said Miguel Garcia, institutional relations director at Lala. “This is coupled with strong logistical support from Florida Bebidas in product distribution; we will generate strength in production and distribution to satisfy the market and consumers in Costa Rica”.

As part of the project, Lala has acquired a dairy plant in San Ramon de Alajuela, which previously belonged to Florida Lacteos. The complex will see the manufacture of products under the Lala and Mu! brands, which will then be marketed by Florida Lacteos.

Pproducers affiliated with Coopeleche (a Costa Rican dairy cooperative) will act as milk suppliers for the venture.
