Malaysia: Gruma inaugurates new plant
Gruma, a Mexican manufacturer of corn flour, tortilla, flatbread and pizza base products, has opened a new plant in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
According to Gruma’s president and CEO Juan Moreno, the investment of $55 million represents a “solid step” towards “consolidating our global presence and strengthening our position as the world leader in the production of corn flour, tortillas and wraps”.
The facility is reported to have an annual production capacity of 30,000 tons of tortillas, tortilla chips, flat breads, and pizza bases. Its products will be distributed to countries in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
The company entered the Malaysian market in 2007 with the acquisition of a specialty flat bread factory and now reportedly intends to expand its presence in the market with its global brand Mission.
