Japan: Morinaga launches first refrigerated product under the Hi-Chew brand
Consumers in Japan now have available the first refrigerated version of the long-standing confectionery brand Hi-Chew, a fruit flavoured soft chewy candy originally launched by Morinaga in 1975.
The product, which is normally sold at room temperature, and has been launched with many different flavours, has been developed in a refrigerated form to celebrate the brand’s 40th anniversary. The special edition comes with claim “the softest ever ” and features a grape flavour. It is further described as “soft and rich” and “with 100% grape juice”.
The refrigerated Hi-Chew is also different in terms of its packaging. The normal product is presented in a wrapper but this limited edition is presented in an overwrapped tray, one-by-one, and features a plastic pick-stick.
The regular ambient soft candy is sold at ¥ 100 ($0.80) for 12 pieces, while the new refrigerated set of 8 pieces retails at ¥ 298 ($2.39).
