Japan: Nippon Ham introduces triangular-shaped, microwaveable sausage packs

Aimed at meeting a growing demand for convenience foods, Nippon Ham has introduced a new microwaveable sausage product in Japan.

Named Raku Pack Renji de Wiener (translating as "easy wiener sausage in a microwaveable pack”), the new launch is claimed to be unique in terms of the packaging and the way the product is cooked. In order to prepare, the consumer need only make a small tear in the pack before heating in the microwave for 50 seconds. As such it is designed to be a convenient lunch solution: the pack is also said to function as a serving plate.

Nippon Ham Raku Pack Renji de Wiener is available from 20th January 2015 with an RRP of 435 JPY ($3.68) for a pack of two. Nippon Ham is anticipating sales of ¥1.3 billion ($10.9 million)
