Japan: Meiji to make full-scale entry into chilled processed food
Meiji has announced that it is making a nationwide entry into the processed food business with its Daily Rich range of soups, sauces, curries and meals.
The Daily Rich brand has been available since last year but was only offered in the Kansai and Chubu areas of Japan.
The nationwide rollout of the Daily Rich range sees a total of 21 products go on sale: 8 varieties of cooking sauce that have 2 to 3 portions per pack; the microwaveable Renji de Gochiso series with 11 single-serve varieties of pasta sauce, curry and soup; and 2 “premium” beef products: beef curry and hashed beef.
According to information, Meiji is attempting to target busy working parents and individuals with little time for shopping or cooking – an area where the company sees increased demand.
