Japan: Calbee unveils three ‘winning’ crisp flavours
Calbee, the Japanese snack and confectionery company, has announced the release of three new unusual potato crisp flavours, launched as a part of promotion of celebrating the firm’s 40th anniversary.
Due to go on sale this March, the new varieties stem from an 'audition' held last year to find interesting and innovative flavours for the Calbee brand. Calbee has now revealed that the ‘winning’ flavours were Gomayopon, a mix of goma (sesame), mayonnaise and ponzu (a citrus-based sauce); Sawakuri & Hotate, a blend of sour cream and scallop flavours with a hint of wasabi; and Tuna Corn Curry. They will all be available in a 58g bag
Announcing the launch, Calbee said the new flavours had been chosen from more than 400,000 entrants. “We wanted to create topical yet tasty new flavours with the help of consumers who have been supporting the trusted, long-seller brand, and this is the reason why we had the audition”, the company said.
