Ireland: Ballymaguire Foods expands to target UK market

Irish-based chilled ready meal manufacturer Ballymaguire Foods has announced that it will construct a new 70,000 sq ft food plant in north Dublin with a view to expanding the company’s presence in the UK.

The new jobs are said to be worth an extra €4 million ($4.6 million) to the local economy, creating 100 new jobs over the next nine months.

Managing director Ed Spelman said: “Our production capability will now grow to over 500,000 meals per week and this will mainly be used to fuel the opportunities we see in the UK and add to our existing business there. We managed to buck the trend during the recession, as we used it to find new opportunities and successfully grow. We are now backing ourselves with this new investment which will help us continue to improve and innovate new food products”.

The company, founded in 2008, specializes in making and developing private-label prepared foods for retailers and well-known international food service operators. The customers include retail chains Tesco, Lidl, Aldi, Centra, Supervalu and Budgens.
