India: PepsiCo ventures into dairy market
US-based food and soft drinks giant PepsiCo has announced the launch of a new Oats + Milk beverage under the Quaker Oats brand.
According to sources, the nutritional grain and dairy drink was developed using a patented SoliOats technology that blends oats with milk, and marks the entry of the company in the dairy market in India.
Regarding the new product, Deepika Warrier, vice-president of the nutrition category at PepsiCo India, said: "It’s a value-added, grain-based, fibre-fortified dairy beverage that is targeted to cater to the nutrition needs of breakfast. We have a pipeline of different flavours and a few more value-added dairy products that would be launched through the year".
The drink will be launched in 17 cities throughout the country over the next few weeks, available in 'on-the-go' cartons of 180ml priced at 30 INR ($0.47), in the flavours Almond and Mango.
Besides Quaker Oats, PepsiCo is considering launching dairy-based beverages under other brands, including Tropicana, sources state.
