India: Patanjali reported to be establishing cosmetics plant

Patanjali Ayurveda, the fast-growing ayurvedic consumer goods firm, is seeking to establish a new production facility in Pithampur, near Indore in Madhya Pradesh, as it looks to ramp up its production of personal care products, according to a report in the Times of India.

Official sources are reported as saying that the firm, which manufactures 45 types of cosmetic item, had asked for around 40 acres of land to start a manufacturing unit in the area.

In December of last year, it was reported that Patanjali was set to invest 1,000-crore INR ($150 million) early in 2016 in various expansion plans, including setting up manufacturing plants in the southern part of India. In the same month the firm was also in the process of expanding its healthy and beauty portfolio, launching natural cosmetics under the Saundarya brand and baby care products under the Shishu Care brand.

The Times of India reports that Patanjali currently operates 12 plants up and down India, turning out goods such as confectionery, herbal cosmetics, juices and detergents.
