India: Danone looks to double business by 2020

Multinational dairy and drinks firm Danone is said to be planning to double size of its business in India by 2020 by bringing more global brands to the country, as well as by launching new products.

According to a report in the Deccan Chronicle, 10 new products are lined up for 2017, starting with the launch of the infant nutrition brand Aptamil, which was just released.

Neocate, a nutritional product formulated for infants with allergies to cow’s milk is reportedly another of the planned launches, alongside products for children with metabolic problems and a malt-based drink.

Speaking to PTI, Danone India managing director Rodrigo Lima said: "At present, our nutrition business is about 80 per cent of our overall business in India and the rest from the dairy segment. Going forward this proportion will continue. We plan to double our nutrition business between now and 2020 and so should our dairy business".

No figures have been disclosed for the company’s investment in the country.
