Germany: Rewe launches subscription delivery service
Rewe, the German supermarket chain, is set to launch a grocery delivery service based on a monthly subscription free, according to a report in Lebensmittelzeitung.
The move follows the trial of a similar offering by the retailer in Austria, and comes as US e-commerce giant Amazon is reported to be entering the German market with its own subscription model grocery service, Amazon Fresh.
Prices for Rewe's new 'free' (on demand) delivery service – dubbed Liefer Flat – start from €6.99 per month for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday deliveries, rising to €9.99 per month for a service that also includes Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays.
According to information on the Rewe website, customers should choose 'Liefer Flat' as their delivery option at checkout. They then receive a one-use code via e-mail that guarantees their chosen delivery slot.
