Germany: Nestle to close coffee plant in Mainz
Nestle Germany has announced its intention to close its coffee and cocoa plant in Mainz, Germany by the end of December 2017.
In a statement, Nestle said that the factory, which has capacity for around 24,000 tons of coffee and cocoa products, was no longer suitable for the requirements of modern and efficient coffee production and that an independent review had concluded that the necessary upgrades to the site would not be commercially viable.
The company said that would work on acceptable social solution for the 380 employees of the plant in Mainz. Nestle Germany’s Chief HR Officer Peter Hadash commented: "We have decided to give early notice of our intentions in order to give the greatest possible scope for new plans to be put in place and to maximise opportunities for individual solutions".
Nestle said that it would continue investing in Germany, such as at its recently-opened coffee plant in Schwerin.
