Germany: Drogerie Markt moves into online retail
Drogerie Markt (DM), Germany's leading retailer of health & beauty products and housewares, is expanding for the first time into online retail, according to a report in Lebensmittel Praxis.
Launched on the 14th July, the e-commerce platform allows consumers to choose from a range of 11,000 products that is similar to that available in DM's high street stores.
Ordering is done on the basis of 'parcels' with a capacity of around 25kg or 140 l. Customers can 'fill up' one parcel for a standard delivery charge of €4.95 ($5.49), beyond which a further delivery charge of the same amount applies. 'Parcels' are then delivered to the customer's own home address, or alternatively to parcel collection / delivery points such as those in the PaketShop network. Alternatively, customers can opt for an in-store click-and-collect service.
Delivery time is said to be two to three working days.
