Germany: Coca-Cola to close up to seven facilities

Global drinks giant Coca-Cola has announced plans to close up to seven facilities in Germany, including long-standing plants in Bremen and Oldenburg, according to a report in NWZ Online.

Aside from Bremen and Oldenburg, smaller facilities in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Sachsen-Anhalt and Baden-Wurttemberg are also reportedly set for closure, leading to a potential loss of more than 500 jobs.

The "rationalisation of the production network" comes in response to "changing market conditions", and will later also see the construction of a new central logistics facility in the greater Bremen area.

Commenting on the move, Coca-Cola Nord managing director Per Jensen said: "These decisions are never taken lightly, and only after a careful appraisal of the situation. But we must adapt to the evolution of the market and the needs of our customers".
