Germany: Aldi Nord launches ‘dish of the day’ ready meals

German supermarket chain Aldi Nord has launched a new line of fresh lunch meals that rotates on a daily basis, according to an article in the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung.

Launched with the slogan “daily choice in the fresh aisles”, Aldi’s ‘dish of the day’ concept will allow consumers to choose from more than 40 varieties in total, but only two on any given day.

Speaking to the Abendblatt, Aldi said that the new range was in line with consumer demands for healthier and fresher ready meals.  The concept is now being rolled across all Aldi Nord supermarkets after successful trials in selected stores.

Aldi Nord’s new ready meal line up includes products such as Pork Goulash, Cabbage Hotpot with Sausage and German Style Veal Burgers. The retail price for the meals, which weigh variously between 450g and 580g, is €2.99 EUR ($3.36).
