MANCHESTER – 15th July 2016: This month, the Gama Innovation Award – Product goes to Ritter Sport Chocolate Bar with Crunchy Tortilla Chips, a new launch highlighting the growing taste for savoury flavours and crunchy textures in the confectionery market.
Among the latest additions to chocolate firm Ritter Sport's Bunte Vielfalt ('Colourful Variety') line of square milk chocolate bars in Germany is a variety named Crunchy Tortilla Chips. The new launch, in a bright orange wrapper, combines milk chocolate with small pieces of corn tortilla chips and roasted crisped rice, and poses the question "chocolate or crisps - why one or the other?"
"We've seen chocolate emerge once or twice as a flavour in the crisps category, but we don't recall tortilla chips making the same journey in the opposite direction", commented Gama editorial director Tom Warden. "Ritter Sport with Crunchy Tortilla Chips highlights the mainstreaming of sweet / savoury crossover in the confectionery market, alongside the bolder use of textural variety to create more dynamic sensory profiles".
