MANCHESTER – 27th June 2016: Bringing new dispensing technology to the yoghurt space, La Fontaine A Yaourt Yoghurt Drink is the recipient of this month's Gama Innovation Award - Packaging.
Literally translating as "The Yoghurt Fountain", La Fontaine A Yaourt Yoghurt Drink fom France-based Yeo Frais (part of the Sodiaal group) is a launch that offers an alternative to conventional packaging in the yoghurt drinks category. The 1.5kg flexible pouch is equipped with a special tap that is promoted as "hygienic and practical", allowing the contents to be dispensed in the exact quantity required each time. The pouch is said to be less material-intensive than standard plastic bottles, and preserves the yoghurt for up to seven days after the pack is opened.
Commenting on the innovation, Gama editorial director Tom Warden said: "We have seen tap technology become established, to some extent, in markets like wine and beer, and even in categories such as laundry detergent, but we don't recall seeing this kind of dispensing device in dairy drinks. It will be interesting to monitor the penetration of flexible packs in categories such as dairy over the coming years, as companies latch on to their material benefits and versatility in comparison with conventional bottle formats".
