MANCHESTER – 26th January 2016: The Gama Innovation Award – Product for January goes to Goodfella's Sweet Fella's Pizza, a launch looking to move pizza from main meal to sweet course through the use of dessert-inspired toppings.
"The worlds of pizza and dessert have collided", according to manufacturer Green Isle Foods, with the launch in Ireland of Goodfella's Sweet Fella's, a line of "delicious dessert pizza" featuring indulgent cake and dessert inspired toppings. The stone-baked base comes with a choice of an Apple Crumble topping – diced apples, Bramley apple sauce and a crumble topping – and Chocolate Brownie – featuring chocolate sauce, chocolate brownie pieces and milk and white chocolate chips. The line is being launched with the slogan "slice 'n' share", suggesting it is being promoted especially for parties or other social gatherings.
"The debut of Goodfella's Sweet Fella's Pizza emphasises the impact of the recent resurgence in 'comforting' desserts across the frozen food space as a whole", commented Gama editorial director Tom Warden. "More than this, it demonstrates that innovation in indulgence does not just need to be limited to sweet products – successful sweet and savoury combinations in other categories can also cater to consumers' growing demand for more multifacted and adventurous flavour blends".
