France: Lactalis to acquire dairy producer in Germany

Lactalis, the French dairy multinational, has made an agreement to acquire German dairy producer Omira.

Omira, one of the largest dairies in southern Germany, produces 830 million kilograms of milk per year, UHT milk, dairy-based desserts and lactose-free products in its two facilities in Neuberg and Ravensburg.

According to sources, Lactalis will guarantee milk prices for Omira’s 2,600 suppliers for the next decade where the deal could give to the milk producers "access to international markets and the creation of new sales channels".

With a turnover of €16.5 billion in 2015, Lactalis processed 15.6 billion litres of milk per year, where 32% is for cheese, 25% for liquid milk, 13% yogurts and desserts, 13% dairy ingredients, 10% butter and cream and the remaining 7% for other products.

Financial terms of the agreement weren’t disclosed.
