Finland: Atria to acquire Aalbaek Specialiteter

Finnish food company Atria has announced is acquiring the business operations of Aalbaek Specialiteter A/S, Denmark’s largest manufacturer of organic cold cuts.

Aalbaek Specialiteter was founded in 1920 and is now one of Europe’s largest manufacturers of organic meat products including cold cuts, pates and bacon.

Atria said the purchase was aimed at strengthing Atria’s market leading position in cold cuts in Denmark, where demand for organic meat products has been increasing steadily for several years.

The purchase includes a butcher’s shop and a production facility in Farre close to Give. Atria Denmark’s production facility in Horsens already produces a number of Aalbæk Specialiterer’s products, and both factories will continue the production of Aalbaek Specialiter’s products on conclusion of the deal, Atria said.

As a result of the deal, Atria said its net sales were projected to grow by around €10 million ($11 million) per year.

The company will be transferred to Atria on 11 May 2015.
