Egypt: Nestle opens first confectionery factory in Egypt

Nestle has announced the opening of a new extrusion facility in the 6th of October City on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt. The plant – the company’s first confectionery facility in the country -  will produce Crunch, a candy bar brand owned by the company.

The extrusion line is an extension of the existing dry food factory where Nestle produces products for brands such as Maggi and Nescafe, and is an attempt to tap into a local snacking market estimated at $1.6 billion.

At the inauguration ceremony, Nandu Nandkishore, Executive Vice President Nestle SA and Zone Director for Asia, Oceania, Africa and the Middle East, commented: “Egypt is an important trade and production center for Nestle. Our factories here produce and supply some of Nestle’s biggest brands for the entire region”.

At the moment, Nestle exports between 10 and 15 % of the dry goods produced in Egypt to other countries in the region. It has invested 1 billion EGP ($140 million) in Egypt since 2011, doubling its number of employees there to 6,300.
