Czech Republic: Carlsberg expands portfolio with Zatec acquisition
The Carlsberg Group has announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire 51% of Zatecky Pivovar in the Czech Republic, in a deal that will allow it to enter the world's foremost beer market per capita.
The Zatec brewery was established in 1801 and is described as having a production capacity of 0.2m hl. Aside from the Zatec brand, the company also produces the gluten-free beer brand Celia, described by Carlsberg as a light lager that preserves the typical taste of Czech lager and makes it possible for consumers who suffer from celiac disease to enjoy a beer.
Commenting on the move in a statement, Carlsberg said that premium Czech beer represented a growing segment across key markets in Europe, and following the acquisition it would be able to roll out the brewery’s main brand, Zatec, in selected markets.
The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
