Colombia: Alqueria to invest €13 million over next three years

The Colombian dairy company Alqueria has announced plans to invest $13 million ($17.8 million) in its business over the next three years to upgrade its production facilities and expand into new markets.

The company currently produces 300 million of litres of milk per year but, as a result of the investment, intends to increase capacity to 500 million litres.

Among recent developments, the company has invested COL$6,000 million ($3 million) in new “Practijarra”  pouch packaging and is intending to purchase further packaging machinery by the end of the year in order to further develop the offering.

According to Jaime Eduardo Gomez, COO and legal representative of the company, while the company invests in upgraded facilities it has not ruled out acquisitions of facilities in other countries. While South and Central America is one focus for this strategy, opportunities in Africa are also being explored, he said.
