China: Yashili opens plant in New Zealand
China's Yashili New Zealand Dairy, a subsidiary of Yashili International and Mengniu Dairy, has opened an infant formula plant in Pokeno, Auckland, New Zealand after a three-year construction period.
Yashili New Zealand general manager and director William Zhao said the company chose Pokeno because of its geography, location and excellent dairy farming facilities.
"The operation of the Mengniu-Yashili New Zealand plant will help to build a global network for Mengniu and achieve globalization for the brand, as well as having historical significance for the promotion of sustainable development of the dairy industry worldwide", added Yashili chairperson Sun Yiping at the opening.
The 30,000 sq m plant will have an annual production capacity of 52,000 tonnes of formula. Products will be siold under the brand Super Alpha-Golden Stage with shipments to China expected to begin in early 2016.
