Chile: Barry Callebaut opens new facility to strengthen presence in Latin America

Cooca processor Barry Callebaut has inaugurated a new chocolate factory  in Paine, Chile as the company looks to strengthen its presence in Latin America.

Located not far from the capital Santiago de Chile, the facility will produce liquid chocolate and compound for food manufacturers and confectionery companies to serve demand in the fast-growing Chilean chocolate market and to tap into new opportunities in the Andean region as a whole.

Juergen Steinemann, CEO of the Barry Callebaut Group, commented: “The inauguration of our new factory in Chile further confirms our commitment to serving customers throughout Latin America.  As the global popularity of chocolate continues to grow, our focus remains on expanding into emerging markets to better serve our customer being food manufacturers and confectionery companies. Chile is an attractive market for growth, as do neighboring countries like Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Peru”.

The new facility, which has an initial annual production capacity of around 25,000 tonnes of liquid chocolate and compound, is Barry Callebaut’s first processing plant in Chile. In recent years the company has been looking to expand its presence in Latin America as a whole, with the opening of six factories in Brazil and Mexico.
