Canada: McCain to invest $65 million in plant expansion

Canada-based potato processor McCain is to spend $65 million to expand its chips (fries) facility in Florenceville-Bristol, New Brunswick, according to a report in Food Business News.

The investment will see the addition of a new production line catering to demand for hash brown patties and other potato products, alongside  a 32,000 sq ft expansion to the existing chips plant, new manufacturing equipment and technology.

Commenting on the move, McCain's North America regional president Jeffery DeLapp said: "Hash browns and other specialty products are the fastest-growing segment of the potato market. This investment will help us continue to grow our North American and export businesses and just as importantly, allow us to support our customers’ growth targets as well".

Construction on the expansion is reportedly set to begin immediately, with the new line expected to begin production in late 2017 or early 2018.
