Canada: Agropur acquires Fromagerie Damafro and M Larivee International

Cheese and dairy manufacturer Fromagerie Damafro and M Larivee International, an international trading house specializing in dairy products and food ingredients, are the latest acquisitions of Agropur group. Terms of the sales are not available.

Damafro is a small family owned company of cheese and fresh dairy produce and employs 195 staff.  The company produces fresh milk, cheeses and Greek yoghurt.  Since 2005 Damafro has been a leading processor of goat’s milk and goat’s cheese products such as Cheve des Aples.

Speaking about the Damafro acquisition, Agropur CEO Robert Coallier said: “This acquisition strengthens Agropur’s leading position in the production and marketing of fine cheese in Canada. We will be able to offer our customers an even wider selection and continue innovating in the fine cheese sector.”

Meanwhile, commenting on the purchase of M Larivee International, Agropur Cooperative chairman Serge Riendeau said: "We are very pleased with this acquisition. It will allow us, as a first step, to recreate the Agropur Export Group and develop international markets with our own products".

Agropur is a major player in Canada’s dairy industry, and now has around 3,400 dairy producer owners and 6,300 employees with an estimated turnover of around $3.8 billlion.
