Brazil: Unilever to invest R$600 million in new plant

Unilever is investing R$600 million ($172 million) in a new plant and a distribution centre in Pernambuco, Brazil, according to a report in Diario de Pernambuco.

The investment is said to be largest amount invested by the group in a new manufacturing complex in Brazil this year. Building work is reportedly scheduled to start next month and is estimated to be finished by the end of 2017.

According to sources, the Unilever factory and logistics hub will generate 600 direct jobs and a chain of 1,500 indirect jobs in the production and distribution of food products, personal hygiene and cleaning products on a national level.

The site for the new facilities measures 200 hectares in total, with potential for future expansion.
