Brazil: Heineken to close plant in Bahia
Heineken, the Dutch beermaker, has announced that it will cease operations at its plant in Feira de Santana (Bahia), Brazil.
According to Heineken Brazil, "the decision was taken based on viability studies and on the need to drive the company's operations to the next level of excellence, while maintaining its financial sustainability".
The company said that the regions previously served by the Bahia unit would now be supplied by breweries in Pacatuba (Ceara) and Araraquara (Sao Paulo).
The closure of the Feira de Santana plant comes just three months after Heineken announced an investment of R$1 billion ($275 million) in production facilities in Brazil, including the expansion of its plants in Ponta Grossa (Parana) and Jacarei (Sao Paulo), in addition to the development of a new plant in Goias (Itumbiara).
